Hello everybody,
Hope all is well. My subscription ran out
. Hopefully I'll get that back up and running soon enough.
As I have said in some of the descriptions of my newest pieces, I'm working on a graphic novel. I'm really serious about this and I think if I can accomplish what is lurking around in my head, it has an alright chance of getting published. I've been working really hard on it and I was wondering if I could get your opinions on some things. I know everyone is very busy, but living in a small, Catholic town, there is literally no one who I could ask things about this. Maybe some of you can help.
First of all, at times I feel really positive about it, I look at what I've got done so far and I think "Hey, I'm really proud of that" and I can really see it getting published. At other times, being a very worrisome person, I get negative. Is there really a market for fantasy art? Do you guys think I could actually make money at this? I also know in regular publishing, just for novels and stuff, it isn't just based on skill, they often don't even look at your work unless you have an agent or you've already had something published. I haven't read anything like this for comic publishers, but is it still the case? Gah, I don't know. I also have no people in this business to take a look at my work and tell me what they think. I guess I don't really know a thing about it, other than how to actually create my graphic novel.
I know I, myself, am obsessed with graphic novels and other art books. I buy all of them, no matter what. Are other people like that though? I guess there wouldn't be publishers if there weren't others like myself. This is really what I want to do though. I'm so drawn to the things I draw, it's almost like a religion to me, and I only wish to share those feelings with others who would feel the same way. I think I have pretty good ideas, I've established them into a story, with characters and fairytales unique to my imagination... which leads me to my next question. How much of this should I reveal? I have quite a few drawings that I haven't put on DA, because I thought perhaps if I released them now, nobody would have any need to buy it if I did get it published. Should I keep them all a secret? Show only some of them? Or give a large sample of the drawings and writing to go along with it?
I know not all of you are going to have expert opinions, but I really would greatly appreciate any input or advice you had.
Thanks so much, I hope you're all drawing, painting, or doing whatever you do.
